Inspired by the vision and heart of our founder, St John Bosco (Don Bosco), we focus on the whole person, helping young people grow in knowledge, faith, character, and joy. Don Bosco believed that “education is a matter of the heart”, where relationships, trust, and joy are at the centre of learning. His Preventive System of Reason, Religion, and Loving-Kindness continues to guide us today.
Grounded in this tradition, we create an environment where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to flourish. Our mission is to nurture young people who are anchored in hope, discover their God-given purpose, and are ready to contribute positively to their families, community, the Church, and our global world. We build a welcoming and joyful community where teachers walk alongside students, offering guidance, opportunities, and encouragement to uncover their gifts and live life to the full.
This Salesian spirit of joy and faith, born from Don Bosco’s dream of helping young people become “good Christians and honest citizens”, shapes everything we do, from learning and wellbeing to sport, arts, and service.
In keeping with this tradition, and guided by the Charter for Salesian Schools in Australia, our school community strives to be:
Religious Education holds a central place in the life of our learning community at Salesian College Sunbury. It is not only an academic pursuit but also a spiritual journey that supports the growth of the whole person. Religious Education is taught from Year 7 through to Year 12, ensuring that students are continually invited to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of faith throughout their secondary years.
Through the Religious Education curriculum, students are invited into experiences of prayer, liturgy, and Eucharistic celebration, where faith and life come together in meaningful ways.
Our aim is to provide students with a rich Catholic education shaped by the values and teachings of Jesus Christ, found in the Gospels and lived out through the educational vision of St John Bosco.
Don Bosco’s way of educating, built on the principles of Reason, Religion, and Loving-Kindness, places relationships and faith at the heart of learning.
At Salesian College, retreats are a vital part of our faith and formation journey. Each year level is invited into a retreat experience, beginning in Year 7 and continuing through to Year 12. These days provide students with the chance to step back from the busyness of school life, reflect on what truly matters, and encounter meaning in their own unique way.
In a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, students gather to explore life, relationships, and purpose. Rooted in our Catholic and Salesian tradition, retreats invite young people into the presence of Christ, while also respecting and honouring the diverse faith and life journeys within our community. They strengthen class bonds, build trust with teachers, and encourage students to grow in hope, purpose, and joy.
Liturgical celebrations are also central to our College life. Through regular Masses, prayer services, Feast Day celebrations and liturgies, our community celebrates the richness of the Catholic faith while creating a space where all can participate meaningfully. These moments nurture gratitude, unity, and reflection, reminding us that faith and spirituality are woven through all that we do.
Each Tuesday morning from 8:00–8:30am, our college community gathers onsite in the Chapel of St John Bosco to celebrate Mass. This weekly Mass is a simple yet meaningful way to begin the day in prayer, reflection, and community. Students, staff, families, and friends are all invited and warmly welcomed to attend.
Our community is guided by Jesus Christ’s gospel values and inspired by the life and legacy of St John Bosco, to uphold the dignity and growth of every person. We strive to form compassionate, hopeful young people in an environment of respect, kindness, and fairness.
As a community, we are committed to equity, inclusion, and human rights, recognising our shared responsibility to contribute to positive change both locally and globally. Students actively engage in initiatives such as Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), and other Salesian Mission works.
Through these experiences, young people grow in empathy, solidarity, and a deeper understanding of how they can make a difference.
God our Father, we are thankful for all your blessings given to us at Salesian College Sunbury. We thank you for St John Bosco, who presents us with the gospel of joy in Jesus Christ, through reason, religion and loving kindness.
Through your Holy Spirit, grant us the wisdom and energy to engage positively in education, and use all our gifts and talents to seek excellence in life. Grant us the spirit of compassion in our service to the poor and the marginalised.
Bless us Lord, our families and friends, as we live to witness and proclaim your love to the world. Grant this through Christ The Lord. Amen.
Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.
St. John Bosco, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
--
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
