Supporting the new journey

The transition from primary to secondary school is an exciting milestone — and at Salesian College Sunbury, we make sure every student feels supported from the very start.
We work closely with families and primary schools to make the experience smooth, connected, and full of opportunity.

What to expect during the transition:

  • Grade 5 students are invited to visit our College.
  • Applications for Year 7 open while students are in Grade 5.
  • Grade 6 students can attend College events throughout the year.
  • Our staff visit primary schools to get to know students.
  • Additional transition sessions are offered where needed.
  • Each Year 7 student is paired with a Year 10 Mentor.
  • A staggered start to the year helps students settle in gradually.
  • Weekly Pastoral Care lessons focus on transition and wellbeing.
  • Ongoing support is provided by Oratory Leaders and House Coordinators.
  • Families are welcomed with a Year 7 Family Night in Term 1.
  • The Year 7 Camp, also held in Term 1, helps students form lasting friendships.
