Formerly known as Retreat or MRC, Stretch is our curated program for students in their traditional Year 9 year.
Stretch (formerly Retreat) at Salesian College Sunbury is a transformative, semester-long program designed exclusively for Year 9 students.
Held in our purpose-built facilities on campus, it forms a vital part of our vertical curriculum, giving students the space to explore, challenge themselves, and grow at a pivotal stage in their journey.
More than a pause from routine learning, Stretch fosters personal growth, independence, and connection through a balance of core and experiential learning. Students take part in a range of hands-on and reflective experiences that build wellbeing, resilience, and real-world capability.
Throughout the Stretch semester, students participate in:
• English and Numeracy classes delivered through engaging, practical contexts
• Increased physical education and outdoor activity
• Passion projects driven by student interest and initiative
• Local excursions and extended camp experiences
• Reflective sessions focusing on emotional intelligence, teamwork, and faith
The Stretch program is grounded in the teachings of Saint John Bosco and the values of Salesian spirituality – joy, community, presence, and relationship. It creates space for students to explore who they are and who they are becoming, all while strengthening friendships and their connection to the broader College community.
By stepping outside traditional classroom settings and into a collaborative, supportive environment, students leave Stretch with a stronger sense of self, a deeper understanding of their peers, and renewed confidence in their learning journey.
