College Play

On Thursday August 3 and Friday August 4 the Canteen was transformed into an intimate theatre to produce a play written by A.J McKinnon called Much Ado About What You Will.

Much Ado is based on Shakespeare’s plays in one clever and witty story including characters such as Macbeth, Romeo, Portia, the Witches, The Actors and many more. The play was performed to a full audience which included the play writer himself. The cast and crew comprised of 25 students who had been in rehearsal for approximately 10 weeks, rehearsing on a Thursday after school. Amongst the cast and crew were students ranging from Year 7-12. For some of these students it was their first time on the stage and for others an opportunity to extend their skills and work on another genre of theatre.

Year 8 student Rick Daicos recalls his time working on the play “The play was heaps of fun. Although there was a lot of extra work involved, I really enjoyed the end result. Coming in to this, I knew that it would be a huge commitment but I wanted to be apart of it because I was in the school production last year as a member of chorus and wanted to try being a lead character. I was really nervous on the first night but I got through it and I’m happy that I did. I was unsure about a lot of parts of the play but the teachers and other students helped me out and gave me extra confidence. I am glad that I tried out for the part of Romeo, it was a great experience.”

Congratulations to all students who took part in this production. As with all productions, many staff work behind the scenes directing, dressing and supporting the students as they grow throughout the rehearsal period. Thank you also to all of the staff involved for the many hours of work on the production. Click here to view a copy of the program.
