From our Rector

Following my appointment of being the Salesian Provincial in 2018-2023, I was asked to visit Rome to meet up with our Rector Major, Fr Angel Artime SDB, the General Councillors, and many key staff who work at our headquarter.

I went in the middle of July spending a week in the headquarter where I was given a mandate or a road map for the next six years as the Provincial of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and Samoa.

Many of you may have wondered about my role and my presence in the College. I will continue to be the Rector until the end of 2017. Sadly, I needed to resign from teaching to prepare myself for this new role. I will be in and out of school for the remainder of the year. Yet, I will try to be present at major College events in 2017.

I was surprised and humbled on the offer to take on this new position of a servant-leader to the Salesians and their works in Australia and the Pacific. Knowing who I am, and of my limitations, I have accepted it as the will of God. My life, after all, is to serve Him while serving the young ones.

I thank many of you who have congratulated me on my appointment. Could I ask for your prayer so that I and my fellow Salesians will continue to serve all people especially those in need.

God bless!

Fr Will Matthews SDB
Rector and Provincial-Elect
