Subject Selection 2018
It was great to see so many of you at our recent Subject Selection Evening for 2018 Bosco students. We are heading into our final week of subject selection for our 2018 senior students. By now, you have probably spent a great deal of time discussing your child’s future pathway and subjects. Can we remind you to use our 2018 handbooks so that you are fully informed of the subjects/pathways on offer. Once your child has had their subject selection interview they need to enter their subjects online using their planning document and the instructions and link they were e-mailed. They need to print a copy of the online receipt and have you sign it, and sign their planning document. They then submit both documents through their Homeroom Leader who will check that they have entered subjects correctly. Any accelerated forms go straight to Sam Scollo, Bosco Director and VCAL forms should be submitted to Jillian Davis, Applied Learning Leader.

If your child wants to make changes to their online preferences, they can do so until the deadline. Once the deadline is reached, no changes can be made until the subjects are released towards the end of the year.

The timeline for our current students is below.

Tuesday 8 August (extended)
All 2018 Year 12 subjects entered by students and forms signed and submitted.

Wednesday 9 August
All 2018 Year 11 subjects entered by students and forms signed and submitted.

Thursday 10 August
All 2018 Year 10 subjects entered by students and forms signed and submitted.

Friday 11 August
Year 8 & 9 2018 Electives submitted

Savio Campus Elective Selections 2018
Our current Year 7 and 8 students received emails about choosing their electives for 2018 on Tuesday 1 August. The updated handbooks are on our College Website under the Learning and Teaching, so please refer to this when you are having discussions with your child about their elective choices. These can also be found on Schoolbox

Be mindful that the Literacy and Numeracy electives and English and Math electives at Year 9 only run for six months like all other electives. Students in Year 8 select the language they studied in Year 7 or BOOST if they were in that Year 7 class.

Student/Parent/Teacher Interviews
Information will be sent out soon for our Year 7 – 12 Interviews in the Stadium.

Wednesday 23 August: 4pm to 6pm and 7pm to 9pm

Thursday 24 August:  2pm to 3:30pm and 4pm to 6pm

Student Free Days – Friday 11 August
For a number of years the focus of our Teaching and Learning Professional Learning has been on contemporary learning and pedagogical improvement. We have learnt about engaging classroom activities with Glen Pearsall, BLP from Guy Claxton, Flipping the classroom with Andrew Douch, Extraordinary Teaching and Passion Learning with Tony Ryan, Differentiation with Susan Nikarkis, Building Learning and Thinking Capacity with Amanda McGraw, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour with Jo Lange and Restorative Practice with Marg Armstrong just to name a few.

As well as these whole school days we acknowledge all the learning that has happened around digital technologies, STILE, Daymap, Schoolbox, rubrics and “I can …” statements and the great things run by our learning strategies staff. Everything that has happened has had the sole purpose of improving our classroom practice and pedagogy, with our students at the heart of all that we do.

On Friday 11 August, we continue this focus by welcoming Clinton Gray and Brad Scanlon to the school. They will continue our learning journey by focusing on leading contemporary learning and project based learning. Our Year 9 and VCAL teams already use project based learning (PBL) so this is a great opportunity for us to learn more about the type of learning occurring in these programs. We hope to engage in more PBL at Year 7 and Year 8 in 2018 so stay tuned for more information.
