From our Rector

Wednesday 1 March marked the beginning of Lenten Season for Catholics all around the world. Lent is a special season to prepare ourselves for the most important feast of Christian calendar, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

3 things we are encouraged to do more during Lent are Prayer, Fasting and Alms-giving. These 3 things correspond to the commandments of Jesus, that is to love God and love our neighbour as ourselves.

Prayer is about loving God and being in a relationship with Him. Through prayer and in prayer we become one with God. It is a very comforting experience to know that we are with God and in God especially during Lent.

Fasting is about denying ourselves of something we enjoy. We appreciate things in life more if we go without them every now and then. It is a valuable experience of relating to those who are not as lucky as we are. This experience is about loving and looking after ourselves.

Alms-giving is about loving our neighbour, the less fortunate in particular. We experience joy in giving away of our time, talents, energy, goods and money to those in need.

I hope and pray that we all spend a little more time in prayer with God, sacrificing a little to understand the poor, and to share our abundance with the less fortunate in this holy season of Lent.

God bless
