Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching

It has been wonderful to welcome our students and staff back to the 2016 school year. A very warm welcome to our new Year 7 students and families. I have been visiting Year 7 classes and they seemed to have settled in really well. The Italian and Japanese classes that I saw were action packed, students were sharing their past learning and adapting to hearing their teachers speak in these languages. Our school has quickly settled and our students are focused and hopefully pushing themselves to achieve their personal best in all classes.

As we are a large school we maintain a smaller sense of community through our house system. Your child’s homeroom leader should be your first point of contact for all wellbeing and learning issues. Please contact them in the first instance, either by phone or e-mail. This ensures that our internal lines of communication are followed and we can deal with things thoroughly and effectively.

Please get your children to show you how to use Daymap, or alternatively feel free to contact our IT team. This system allows you to see what students are doing in class each day, their homework and stay up to date with their assessment deadlines and results. We are getting better at using it, so you will hopefully see lots more on it this year. The purpose of using Daymap is to further improve our communication between home and school, we hope you find it helpful.

Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews

At the end of last year we decided not to continue with our goal setting interviews in their current format. Goal setting will still be done, but you as the parent/guardian don’t need to come in for this process. As a result we now only have two Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews, please add these dates to your calendars if you haven’t already.

Monday 18 April & Tuesday 19 April

Tuesday 30 August & Wednesday 31 August

2015 Achievement and Excellence ceremony

On Friday 5 February it was lovely to welcome back our Year 12 students from 2015 who excelled in their studies. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rhys Hardiman, who won our 2015 VCAL Excellence Award and Emmanuel Macario our 2015 VCE Dux. It was great to see our past students and their families. The Reporters Academy caught up with many of them to create a movie, capturing their advice and study tips, which we will share with our current Year 12 cohort. It was pleasing to see that so many of our current Year 12’s achieved great results last year when they studied a Year 12 subject in Year 11.

Pam Ogilvie – Professional Learning Leader

Clancy Merrett – Digital Learning Leader

Teresa Pilone – Learning Strategies Leader

Jill Davis – Applied Learning Leader
