Fit 2 Drive

As part of our ongoing focus on student wellbeing and education we are once again fortunate to have the Fit 2 Drive seminar come to Salesian. This will take place for all year 11 students in periods 1 & 2 on Friday the 4th of September. Please use this as an opportunity to speak to your son or daughter about road safety and the influence of peer pressure, both positive and negative, when young people are in motor vehicles.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing, Robert Hill, is the Patron of Fit to Drive and has strongly endorsed the work of the Fit to Drive Foundation. Here is a statement from the Assistant Commissioner:

“As Patron I am pleased to commend to you the commitment and work of the Fit to Drive (F2D) Foundation and its members in keeping the young people of Victoria safe on our roads. “Despite the road safety gains made in recent years through the ‘safe system approach’ adopted by the Government of Victoria and Road Safety Agencies, young people remain at risk as drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

“I support the F2D Foundation and the F2D Workshops and Youth Road Safety Forums, because they are based on road safety research and best practice education principles. I certainly believe that the trained tertiary undergraduates who facilitate the F2D workshop are well placed to be role models and peer educators. Victoria Police welcomes too the participation of all of the other road safety partners in F2D. Essentially local community road safety education programs that are evidence centred are extremely valuable and I encourage you to get involved.

“The strength of the F2D program is its ability to encourage young people to understand and take ownership of the risky situations they find themselves in and to act responsibly. In my experience the tough choices made by young people to keep friends and themselves safe on the roads can turn out to be the most rewarding.

“I have said publicly that despite the fall in road safety deaths over a length of period, it is never a time to let up because with so many families grieving and thousands injured in Victoria on our roads every year.

“I applaud the endeavour and commitment of all involved in the F2D Foundation.”

Year 12 Practice Exams - Tuesday the 15th of September and September 28th - October 2nd
