OZBOSCO

Don Bosco Bicentennial Celebrations: OzBosco- Friday 27 March- Sunday 29 March

Now that the year has commenced, we get into full swing preparations to host OzBosco for 2015 next weekend. OzBosco commences on the Friday afternoon as we immediately finish the school day and concluding at approximately 5pm on the Sunday.

It is only fitting that OzBosco returns to the college for 2015, given that Rupertswood is the site of the “mother house”, but we also hosted the very first OzBosco back in 2009, as some of you may remember.

At this point in time, it is anticipated that we will host approximately 300 members of the Salesian family over the weekend, the greater majority of whom will be sleeping on site.

For new members of staff, OzBosco is a Salesian Province initiative where young members of the Salesian family from all Salesian works (schools (yrs. 10-12 only), youth groups, parishes, young adult ministries, hostels, and other province undertakings) as well as our Salesian religious (priests, brothers, and nuns) and co-operators (“supporters”) come together for a weekend to celebrate our Salesian charism and be animated in a setting where the focus is primarily centred around a joyful expression of our faith. OzBosco has grown over the years and continues to be a highlight of the Salesian calendar.

For 2015, it is appropriate that the OzBosco theme is taken straight from the Strenna- “Like Don Bosco- with the young and for the young.” It is a theme which is applicable to all.

A full interactive program for the weekend has been put together. The facilitators for OzBosco are the Salesian PAT team (Pastoral Animation Team) and ASYM (Australian Salesian Youth Mentors) who are essentially responsible for the “nuts and bolts” of the program. Workshops, discussion groups, key note speakers, games, prayer, meditation and celebration of the life of Don Bosco will be the key features of this years OzBosco.

We are fortunate to also have the presence of Bishop Mark Edwards OMI with us on Sunday to celebrate the concluding Liturgy which will be the Palm Sunday Liturgy. This will take place in Lakeside Stadium at 2pm and we cordially invite the college community to attend this.
