Bosco Campus News

Welcome back to all of the Salesian College students, parents and families in Years 10, 11 and 12 for the 2015 academic year. The new school year is already promising to be a highly successful and enjoyable one for all concerned. This year we build on new beginnings and a new chapter in the Rupertswood story which began in 2014 with the introduction of the Bosco Campus for Year 10, 11 and 12 students and their families.

Our new structure and location has proven to be greatly beneficial for our senior students to have their academic, social, emotional and spiritual needs catered for in an environment geared towards young adults undertaking successful study, training and development for future pathways and life beyond the gates of Rupertswood. This new campus structure ties in with the move to Senior and Junior Home / Pastoral Groups so that all senior students’ pastoral needs are also overseen by a dedicated team of Home Group Leaders, House Leaders and campus staff.

Please find some important points below to start the year. Welcome to the Bosco Campus and best wishes for 2015.

Director – Bosco Campus

Subject Changes

By now all students should have settled on their subject choices for 2015. Any student still wishing to apply for a subject change must do so ASAP as the cut-off date for this is Friday the 20th of February. We are required by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) to have all VCE Unit 1 - 4 changes in by their deadline. Students must pick up an application form from the Bosco Campus office and have it signed by the appropriate people if they would like to request a subject change.

Special Consideration for Unit 3 & 4 Subjects

Any student who believes that they may have a health or personal issue that could impact on their Unit 3 & 4 coursework or their final examinations in November must see Mr Messer in the Bosco Campus office before Monday the 23rd of February. VCAA have very strict guidelines in relation to applying for this and their deadline for this is fast approaching. If you would like any clarification on VCAA’s rules or would like to discuss your own situation please see Mr. Messer or visit www.vcaa.vic.edu.au as soon as possible.

Study Periods at School and Homework

As an added support for students in Year 11 and 12 we have provided time and spaces for private study here at school. Every Tuesday during period 3 all Year 11 students have an allocated 75 minute supervised study period where they can revise, complete homework or study relevant class work. Our Year 12s have three of these supervised sessions per week and should be making the most of this time and their teachers to maximise their learning and results. All families are encouraged to remind their sons and daughters undertaking a VCE subject that 2-3 hours per night of homework and study is also required at the Senior years.

Presentation Ball – Saturday the 2nd of May

It is that time of the year again when our Year 11 students step up and begin rehearsal for the annual Salesian College Presentation Ball. Tuesday the 10th of February will see our first Presentation Ball rehearsal with two sets of very excited and enthusiastic debutantes to be.  Rehearsals will continue every Tuesday night, either 4-5pm or 5-6pm promptly according to advice the students received last week. Full school sports uniform must be worn at each session and full cooperation with instructors and supervisors is required by all students.

Year 10 Information Night – Wednesday the 18th of February

Salesian College’s annual Year 10 information evening will take place on Wednesday the 18th of February commencing at 7pm. All Year 10 students and their parents are required on the night to receive information about expectations of Senior Schooling at Salesian, requirements of the VCE, future pathways, careers, work experience and support services provided by the school.

This evening is an important part of your son/daughter’s transition into the Bosco Campus and key staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have relating to future pathways.
