After what I hope was a restful and enjoyable holiday, I extend to all members of the Salesian College Sunbury community a very warm welcome back for the final term of the year. A special welcome to our new students who commenced yesterday, as well as several staff who have returned after extended leave.
All students have returned well and have re-engaged positively with school life, both in the classroom and out. Our House Cross Country Carnival held on the last Friday of term (pictured) was a great example of students embracing our College’s charism of “being happy in the Spirit”, with much fun had in competing for House points followed by a shared lunch.
For those who have visited the College recently, you will see just how beautiful the place is looking, with the recently completed Ashes Oval an obvious point of attention. At present, we have over 1,300 students enrolled for 2020, with over 250 applicants for Year 7 in 2021. Offers for enrolment in 2021 will be made later this week, and parents are encouraged to complete the acceptance forms ASAP. Our Open Day and Rupertswood Harvest on 25 October will be a great opportunity to come and see the College in action!
Our Year 12’s will soon celebrate their final days in secondary schooling. Formal classes finish on Friday October 18 and the examination period commences on Wednesday October 23 for some students. I ask all members of the Salesian College Sunbury community to keep these young people in your prayers, that they may enjoy success in their endeavors. I commend the prayer of St Francis de Sales (see below) to both the Year 12 students and their families.
What a joy it was to visit the Royal Melbourne Show these holidays and witness our students competing in various stud and carcass competitions, achieving amazing results. Penants and trophies to one side, it was the way in which our students interacted with Show visitors that impressed me the most, taking time to talk about the animals and what the Agriculture Program at the College is aiming to achieve. They put in many, many hours and they deserve due praise. Of course none of it would be possible without the dedicated support of College Staff; Jazmine Anderson, Xavier Burton, Jason Ritchie and Vincent Lakey. Well done!
Salesian College Sunbury is a large community of students, staff and parents, both past and present. Please keep the following in your prayers:
The Prayer of St. Francis de Sales
Be at Peace
Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;
rather look to them with full hope as they arise.
God, whose very own you are,
will deliver you from out of them.
He has kept you hitherto,
and He will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will bury you in his arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same everlasting Father who cares for you today
will take care of you then and everyday.
He will either shield you from suffering,
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imagination.
