It has been a busy fortnight, with Year 10 and Year 11 examinations, the GAT for students undertaking a Unit 3/4 study, and ongoing assessments for Year 7–9 students. I commend our students for their hard work. They have embraced their learning and all the other opportunities the school offers. Semester 1 has come to an end and it is the easy path to drop the ball and think, “I’m done”, but I ask that you encourage your son or daughter to keep doing their very best. I urge our students to reflect on their talents and identify areas for improvement as we roll into Semester 2.
Last Tuesday 11 June, our staff were involved in a wide range of Professional Learning activities designed to support their work with our students. Some of these activities included:
We appreciate the support given to us by parents on these days, especially to those who need to organize alternative care arrangements at home.
The Feast of Saint Maria Mazzarello was celebrated at the College on Friday 14 June. Our Year 9 campus came to life with a celebration of Eucharist and fun activities for all. In 1872 Don Bosco, together with Maria Mazzarello, founded the Salesian Sisters, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. It was a pleasure to host six Salesian sisters, including Sr Delma the Vice Provincial, on such a significant day for the College. The Year 9s had the opportunity to interact with today's Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and see the energy they bring to their life of community and service and witness true models of their founder, Maria Mazzarello. A highlight and an important part of the Salesian story at our College.
Our students have been rehearsing for the College Play ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’.
Come along for an evening of clever wit and superb satire. See the link under the College Play story to purchase your tickets.
As this is the last newsletter for the term, I take this opportunity to thank the staff of the College who do an amazing job with our students. We are half way through the year and there have been so many highlights and many more planned for the rest of the year. To the entire College community, please take care and have a safe and happy holiday.
Salesian College Sunbury is a large community of students, staff and parents, both past and present. Please keep the following in your prayers:
(From "Prayers of Our Heart" by Vienna Cobb Andersen)
Bless the creators, O God of creation, who by their gifts make the world a more joyful and beautiful realm. Through their labors they teach us to see more clearly the truth around us. In their inspiration they call forth wonder and awe in our own living. In their hope and vision they remind us that life is holy. Bless all who create in your image, O God of creation. Pour your Spirit upon them that their hearts may sing and their works be fulfilling.
