Last term as part of the Year 8 English curriculum, students wrote persuasive speeches and delivered them to their classes. A couple of our students were so passionate about their topics that they volunteered to deliver their speeches again at KIDx. This is a program designed to give young people a say on important issues.
Ryan Drage and Isabelle Smith spoke about drowning deaths and Cyber bullying respectively. In the audience was Deputy Mayor of Hume, Naim Kurt and Deputy Mayor of Macedon Ranges, Mandi Mees. After their speech Ryan and Isabelle answered questions then received feedback from the local political representatives.
The remainder of the day was made up of group activities with the other speakers. It was an amazing day listening to the issues the youth are concerned about and hearing discussions about how to solve them. Our future is in good hands!
