Year 9 Program

“The test of successful education is not the amount of knowledge that pupils take away from school, but rather their appetite to know and their capacity to learn.” - Sir Richard Livingstone, Oxford, 1941

Year 9, activities, outdoors

Our special Year 9 experience

Year 9 is often a year in which students experience disengagement in their learning. Traditional modes of learning and teaching don’t successfully or fully engage the majority of Year 9 Students and meet their learning needs. In response to this, we have changed the learning experience at this year level.

The introduction of the iPads has facilitated the development of our curriculum to make it more challenging, interesting and student focused. We use various teaching methods to suit our Year 9 students, including team-teaching, project-based learning, enquiry learning.

Learning is also extended to the outdoors so students can experience areas such as Agriculture, Sustainability, and Heritage.

The notion of living and learning in the community is central to our philosophy at Salesian College. Hence having staff dedicated to the Year 9 Mazzarello Campus is paramount as it enables the building of strong relationships between staff and students.
